Half the fun of New York Fashion Week happens on the streets, between the shows. So, with events happening mostly digitally over the last year and a half, we’re now inspired to see street style is back in NYC, and setting the tone for a new season of d…
Prompted by a love for Avril Lavigne so strong my ringtone was “Sk8er Boi” for the entirety of middle school, I practically begged my mom to buy me a pair of low-rise black grunge jeans with red thread accents to look just like my favorite Canadian punk-pop star. Many style evolutions later, Halsey – who recently released her grunge-pop album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power – threw on an almost identical pair of jeans from The Attico while on a date night with Alev Aydin at Bella Hadid’s New York Fashion Week party. “Mom and dad’s night out,” Halsey captioned snaps of their night on Instagram on Sept. 9.
Since the album’s whirlwind debut – accompanied by an IMAX film – the “You Asked For This” singer has continued to embrace her gothic style with pieces like their LaQuan Smith crimson corset embellished with black lace detailing. She paired the look with shimmering Giuseppe Zanotti heeled sandals, a black shoulder bag with a gold chain strap, and matching gold jewelry. Their slick black hair and thick lashes added an air of haunting elegance that would make Morticia Addams proud, and we’re taking all the style notes ahead of fall. Get a peek at Halsey and Alev’s date-night outfits from all angles ahead.
Look no further for the standout star of New York Fashion Week – Aaron Rose Philip has arrived on the scene. The Antiguan American model and activist made her exclusive runway debut during Moschino’s spring/summer 2022 show at Bryant Park on Thursday, marking a big moment of representation for the Black disabled transgender community. Aaron, who was born with cerebral palsy, owned the catwalk in a yellow skirt suit adorned with kitschy plastic trinkets that gave a nod to the collection’s whimsical, nostalgic feel, exuding sunshine itself on the otherwise overcast day. At the end of the show, Creative Director Jeremy Scott brought Aaron back out on the runway so the crowd could properly celebrate her historic walk.
“Disabled people, models and talents matter so much.”
Reflecting on the major accomplishment following the presentation, Aaron wrote on Instagram: “It’s been a long time coming and I’m just completely grateful to God and to everybody who has ever supported me in any capacity.. I hope this is the start of more and inspires & empowers more global brands at the same level to truly work towards including and normalizing disabled presences and talents in their showcases. Disabled people, models and talents matter so much and we can do so much as long as the steps are taken to accommodate us properly. Black trans girls & women matter and are beautiful and I thank God that we are being realized more and more for the gentle souls that we are.”
This is far from Aaron’s first time in the spotlight. Back in 2018, she became the first Black disabled transgender woman to be represented by a major modeling agency. Since then, she’s appeared in a Sephora beauty campaign, in Moschino’s fall 2020 campaign, and on the cover of Paper magazine. She was even prominently featured in Miley Cyrus’s “Mother’s Daughter” music video – casual! One thing’s for sure: Aaron’s just getting started, and she’s about to be even more booked and busy. Read ahead to see all the footage of Aaron’s runway debut for Moschino.
In the streets of New York this week, the excitement is palpable. I sensed it firsthand as I stood in line and chatted with my fellow fashion-industry insiders. The highly anticipated New York Fashion Week is back, and with that, we’re also witnessing the return of street style. As celebrities, photographers, editors, and influencers crowd the streets of Manhattan, I am bracing for the biggest fashion moments, and taking notes on early fall trends.

In case you missed it, the fashion landscape is changing at lightning speed in our hyperdigital era, but if there’s one designer who’s clearly imagined what the new generation looks like and then successfully brought that visualization to life, it’s La…
Outer Banks star Madison Bailey and her girlfriend, athlete Mariah Linney, win the award for best dressed couple at New York Fashion Week, hands down. The stylish pair made it out for CFDA’s Fashion Fund Toast in pantsuits that were clearly coordinated, but not overly matchy-matchy. Outfitted by Bailey’s stylist Kyle Kagamida, Mariah dressed down a khaki-colored, relaxed Nanushka suit with white leather low-top sneakers, while Madison went for two-tone neutrals in Alexandre Vauthier. She finished her outfit with a Tyler Ellis Ava Box, vegan heels from Pīferi, and stunning, sculptural rose gold and pearl earrings from Nana Fink.
New York street style photographer Antonio Griffith was there to capture their fashion moment ahead of the event, and let’s just say we’re glad we’ll always have these adorable shots to look back on. While so many celebrities steal the spotlight in front rows, we love to see Madison and Mariah share a loving moment behind the scenes – especially because they look so great while doing it. Ahead, you can scope out some of the exact designer pieces they packed in their New York Fashion Week wardrobes and allow yourself to be inspired by the tailored set that most speaks to you.
Black and white is such a classic style combo that Cruella de Vil built her entire brand around the monochrome pairing, and coming off the success of Disney’s Cruella reboot, celebrities attending New York Fashion Week are taking cues from the stylish …
Gigi Hadid recently reveled in the most stylish mom jeans moment of the summer, but she might have just one-upped herself on the Moschino runway. The supermodel, who’s close friends with Creative Director Jeremy Scott and has made many appearances for the brand before, closed the show in a single-sleeved, animal embroidered patchwork dress that came in baby blanket fabric. The entire “Ladies Who Lunch” collection was inspired by children’s toys, in fact, featuring everything from colorful bangles reminiscent of take-along teething rings and teddy bear earrings to handbags that technically double as beach pails and letter blocks.
Gigi, who’s a new mom to daughter Khai, was given the honor of toting along a baby bottle ahead of the finale, which she posed with, twirled with, and pretended to take a sip of – towering platform sandals be damned. If this gown, complete with an elephant’s trunk on the shoulder, doesn’t scream “powerhouse fashion mom,” then really, what does? The playful moment will naturally be one that the fashion crowd talks about for months following New York Fashion Week, so click through to watch it for yourself and get a load of Gigi’s two kitschy looks on the catwalk. Then catch the full recording of the runway after the jump.
If you made your way through the Brooklyn Museum during New York Fashion Week on Sept. 8, you might have come across lavish Dior designs, paintings that date back centuries, and even Yara Shahidi looking like a work of art. Like a cross between 1921 and 2021, Yara attended the exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams on Wednesday while wearing a Dior haute couture fall-winter 2022 black mohair houndstooth sweater, a flannel skirt with a high waistline, and Dior heeled sandals. “Don’t touch the art,” she captioned a post on Instagram, and we don’t need to be told twice.
The exhibit, curated by Florence Müller and Matthew Yokobosky, features never-before-seen silhouettes marking 70 years of Christian Dior’s fashion impact, but we couldn’t take our eyes off of Yara’s shimmering sweater vest. Reminiscent of a starry night, the sweater is covered in constellations of glitter, pairing perfectly with the drama of her pleated skirt to create a look that’s so romantic it should be framed alongside all of the exhibit’s other beautiful designs. Admire the star’s elegant outfit ahead.
